Why the words 'therapy', 'coach', and 'support' are not interchangeable

Regulation lags product language, and a marketing page can imply clinical care without providing it. The reader's protection is asking for the specific facts in writing.

The fastest free check is a state licensing-board lookup: it takes a minute and tells you whether the person you are relying on answers to a regulator.

The protocol

  1. Write down the exact service you are using and what it promised at sign-up.
  2. Find out who delivers the service: licensed clinicians, unlicensed coaches, or software.
  3. Ask, in writing, what happens in a crisis, whether a human is reachable, and who holds your data.
  4. Check the provider's licence or registration through the state board where you can.
  5. Record the answers, then decide what you will use it for and what you will not.

What the tool does

Build a therapy-app credentials record It runs locally in this browser and sends nothing.

Limit first: This is a planning and record-keeping aid, not therapy, medical advice or crisis support. If you are in crisis, contact a qualified human first.

One human next step

For anything clinical, confirm the provider's licence with your state's licensing board and keep a human clinician as your primary route; if the app's crisis handling worries you, report it to the state regulator.
