WORK / SKILL MAP

Map the Parts of Your Work That Compound With AI — and the Parts to Protect

A job title is too blunt an instrument for planning around changing tools. A better starting point is the work itself: which tasks require context, trust, judgment, physical presence, or relationship-building, and which are repeatable enough to be assisted or redesigned?

Start with the channel change

Write 5–10 recurring tasks, not a job title. Use verbs: reconcile, interview, inspect, explain, coordinate, draft, decide.

Why this matters

This is not a prediction of whether a person will keep a job. It is a structured conversation starter for a worker, manager, or mentor. The output is strongest when it leads to evidence: a new work sample, a better process, a training request, or a conversation about responsibility.

The map uses transparent task lanes so the reader can disagree with a placement and edit it. A model’s general statement about “AI exposure” should never outrank the details of the actual work.

The protocol

  1. Write 5–10 recurring tasks, not a job title. Use verbs: reconcile, interview, inspect, explain, coordinate, draft, decide.
  2. Mark what makes each task valuable: context, human trust, accountability, physical environment, repeatable production, or tool fluency. Several can apply.
  3. Choose one task to redesign with AI assistance and one human-centered skill to deepen. Define what good work and responsible review look like.
  4. Set a 30-day review with evidence. Re-run the map when the tool, workflow, or responsibility changes; do not treat one reading as a permanent forecast.

The result is a next move, not a risk score

A useful map names the task, the reason it belongs in a lane, the human responsibility that remains, and one experiment. It should leave you with something to test or discuss, not a number that pretends to know the future.

Limit first: This is not career advice, a layoff forecast, or a guarantee about employment. It does not know your employer’s plans or evaluate a person’s worth. A career counselor, manager, union, or worker-rights adviser may add context.

One human next step

Bring one task map and one evidence-backed experiment to a manager, mentor, worker representative, or career service — whichever is appropriate to your situation.

Research log and safety checks

AI-assist path: not used for a labor-market forecast. The map is intentionally editable and source-aware; a generic model prediction would create false precision. §6.10: not a frontier-pace topic.

§0.5 protection result: category is job-skill-disruption; crisis-adjacent: no; fear/urgency/scarcity toolkit used: no. The protective function is free and the paid feature is convenience only.
