CONSENT / NOTICES

You Are Chatting With AI. Now Ask What That Notice Does Not Say

Disclosure notices tell you a bot is a bot. They rarely tell you who reviews the transcript, whether a human can take over, or what happens to the record — which is the part that matters.

The free tool below runs entirely in this browser — no account, nothing stored or transmitted. Redact anything you would not want kept before you type it.

Why the notice satisfies the law and not the reader

Disclosure rules are aimed at removing deception, not at explaining consequences. The reader's follow-up questions are what turn a notice into information.

Most services route requests through the same support system the bot belongs to. Naming the questions in writing gets past the first scripted answer.

The protocol

  1. Copy the disclosure text and note where it appeared and what triggered it.
  2. Write the four questions it does not answer: human handover, retention, third-party sharing, and outcomes.
  3. Send them through the service's written channel and keep the wording.
  4. Record the answers with dates, including partial ones.
  5. Decide what you will and will not use that service for, and write the boundary down.

What the tool does

Build an AI disclosure decoder It runs locally in this browser and sends nothing.

Limit first: This is a literacy and record-keeping aid, not legal advice. It cannot tell you what a company will do with your data, only what its own disclosures say.

Cost and free path

Cost: Free: one complete run in this browser, no account. Optional $4 one-time unlock allows unlimited runs of this tool on this browser. The free path and safety guidance never require payment.

Free path, in order (no cost):

  1. FTC privacy and advertising complaint routes
  2. Your state attorney general's consumer division for a chatbot disclosure complaint
  3. USA.gov's complaint finder to confirm the right office

What this cannot do: It cannot tell you what a company will do with your data, only what its own disclosures say.

One human next step

If a service claims to be human, or will not confirm whether a human can take over, report it to the FTC and your state attorney general — several states now require both disclosure and a route to a person.
