WORK / DEACTIVATION

Deactivated by a Rating You Cannot See. Ask for the Reason and the Reviewer

An account can be switched off by an automated decision with no written reason and no interlocutor. A deactivation packet does three things the app does not: it preserves earnings history, demands the reason in writing, and requests a named human reviewer.

Why the packet is the whole case

When deactivation is contract-based, the record is the argument: dates, earnings, ratings, and the absence of a stated reason. Where the EU Platform Work Directive applies, automated decisions of this kind must be explainable and reviewable — and the request for that review has to exist in writing before it can be refused.

The income-loss schedule matters twice: for the appeal, and for unemployment, benefits, or debt decisions that follow a lost account.

The protocol

  1. Export earnings history and ratings for the 90 days before deactivation.
  2. Write the deactivation notice into the record verbatim, with its date and the channel it arrived on.
  3. Demand the specific reason and the policy clause in writing, and request a named human reviewer.
  4. Build the income-loss schedule: average weekly earnings, fixed costs still running, and the date work stopped.
  5. File the packet with the platform's appeal route and keep the reference number; escalate to the state AG or a worker centre if the reply restates the automated decision.

What the tool does

Assemble a deactivation appeal packet: history, quoted notice, written reason request, and income-loss schedule. It runs locally in this browser and sends nothing.

Limit first: This is a record-keeping aid, not legal or tax advice. It cannot compel a payment, overturn a deactivation, or determine whether a specific practice is unlawful.

Cost and free path

Cost: Free: one complete run in this browser, no account. Optional $4 one-time unlock allows unlimited runs of this tool on this browser. The free path and safety guidance never require payment.

Rule status (mixed route): mixed: EU Platform Work Directive human-review duties transpose by December 2026; in the US, deactivation is governed by the platform contract, so the practical routes are the platform's appeal term, state consumer protection, and state wage claims where pay is withheld.

Free path, in order (no cost):

  1. State attorney general's consumer division (usa.gov/state-attorney-general)
  2. 211 — local worker centres and emergency assistance (211.org)
  3. Legal aid intake through lawhelp.org

What this cannot do: It cannot compel a payment, overturn a deactivation, or determine whether a specific practice is unlawful.

One human next step

Send the written request for the reason and the human reviewer through the platform's own appeal channel, keep the reference number, and take it to your state attorney general's consumer division if the reply does not name a person.
