Pay-transparency duties are state law, and they attach to the employer and the posting, not to the applicant. The screenshots have a short life — postings are edited or removed once a hire is made — so the record has to be made on the day the posting is seen.
For the applicant, the same file answers a narrower question: was the range enforced consistently across the candidates who were screened?
The protocol
- Capture the posting on the day you see it: title, employer, location, range, date.
- Note the range if it is there, and the exact rule it is missing if it is not.
- Keep the application timeline: applied date, screen date, any automated assessment, and the outcome date.
- Compare against the same employer's other postings for the same level, if visible.
- File with the state labour or civil-rights agency named in the rule (or the state AG consumer route) and attach the screenshots.
What the tool does
Preserve a pay-transparency evidence file: the posting, the range, the timeline, and the enforcing agency. It runs locally in this browser and sends nothing.
Limit first: This is a record-keeping aid, not legal or tax advice. It cannot compel a payment, overturn a deactivation, or determine whether a specific practice is unlawful.

Rule status (state route): in force: pay-range posting duties are state law in a growing set of states (including CO, CA, NY, WA, HI and IL under their own terms); there is no federal posting rule for private employers. The governing statute and its effective date are the ones in the state where the job is posted; statutes reviewed 2026-10-03. state where the job is posted.

File the screenshots and the timeline with the state agency that enforces the pay-transparency rule, and keep the state attorney general's consumer division as the second route.
