BENEFITS / CASE REVIEW

A System Read Your Case and Something Went Missing

Several states now run automated case-reading against benefit files. When a document is ignored or misread, the fix is a specific request for human review of the file — with the receipt as evidence.

Why 'the system decided' is not the end of the process

Automation flags; eligibility workers decide. Asking for the specific document to be re-examined by a person is a normal case action, not an accusation.

Automated systems have a documented history of false positives — audits have found most flagged cases were not fraud — so a review request is a reasonable, evidence-based step.

The protocol

  1. Request your case file and note every automated flag or note recorded on it.
  2. List what the file gets wrong: the document the system says is missing, or the figure it misread.
  3. Send a written request for human review, naming the specific item and attaching the document again.
  4. Ask that the review be noted on the case and get a written response.
  5. Keep the packet and escalate to a hearing if the review does not resolve it.

What the tool does

Build a case-reading review request It runs locally in this browser and sends nothing.

Rule status (mixed route): Status, 2026-10-03: automated case-reading and fraud flagging is expanding; audits of earlier state systems found the large majority of flagged cases were not fraud, and a written human-review request remains the standard remedy.

What this cannot do: It cannot decide your eligibility, act as your representative, or guarantee that an agency will act.
