Practicing multiplication, learning to structure an essay, and revising a draft are three different exercises. A tool that removes the practice is a problem in the first case and a legitimate aid in the third.
Schools set their own policies, and a household rule that contradicts the teacher creates problems for the student. The rule that works says what happens at home and includes a default: ask the teacher before using a tool on anything graded.
The protocol
- List the assignment types your household actually sees: practice sets, reading, research, first drafts, revisions, projects, and exams.
- For each, write the boundary: no tool, tool for explanation only, tool for checking, or tool allowed with disclosure.
- Agree the disclosure line: when a tool is used, how it is noted — most schools accept a one-line note about what was used and for what.
- Set the default for anything unclear: ask the teacher before, not after.
- Put the charter somewhere visible and review it once a term, since policies and tools both change.
What the tool does
Build a household rule for AI and homework, sorted by what each assignment is practicing, with a disclosure line and a default for unclear cases. It scores nothing and stores nothing.
Limit first: This is a family-agreement aid, not school policy and not academic advice. Your school's own rules take precedence over anything written here.

Send one polite question to the teacher at the start of the term: what the class policy is on AI tools for graded work, and how students should disclose use. Having the answer in writing settles most future disputes.
Research log and safety checks
AI-assist path: not applicable — the output is a household agreement the family writes and signs; generating it would remove the conversation that makes the rule stick. §6.10: not a frontier-pace topic.
§0.5 protection result: category is family-teen-safety; crisis-adjacent: no; fear/urgency/scarcity toolkit used: no. The protective function is free and the paid feature is convenience only.
