Human Rights Watch's May 2026 report documented workers' inability to learn how pay and task allocation are decided, and the EU's Platform Work Directive — transposing by December 2026 — makes algorithmic management transparent for covered platforms. In the US the lever today is your own record plus the state wage and consumer routes.
Recording three numbers per task (customer price, offer, deposited pay) is the difference between "the app pays badly" and a dated, reproducible per-task take-rate that a regulator, a journalist, or a union can act on.
The protocol
- Keep the customer receipt or the posted price for each completed task.
- Record the offer you accepted and the pay actually deposited, with the task date and ID.
- Enter every deduction the app applies — wait time, tips, adjustments, cancellation fees — on the line it belongs to.
- Compute the take rate per task and per week, and flag the tasks where it moves sharply.
- Use the summary in a state wage complaint, a platform appeal, or a worker-organising conversation.
What the tool does
Reconcile customer price, accepted offer, and deposited pay into a per-task take-rate record. It runs locally in this browser and sends nothing.
Limit first: This is a record-keeping aid, not legal or tax advice. It cannot compel a payment, overturn a deactivation, or determine whether a specific practice is unlawful.

Cost: Free: one complete run in this browser, no account. Optional $4 one-time unlock allows unlimited runs of this tool on this browser. The free path and safety guidance never require payment.
Rule status (mixed route): structural: per-task pay is set by platform dispatch algorithms; HRW documented the transparency gap in May 2026, and the EU Platform Work Directive's algorithmic-management provisions must be transposed by member states by December 2026. No US federal platform-pay transparency rule is in force.
Automated decision this documents: algorithmic task allocation and per-task pay computation
Free path, in order (no cost):
- State labor department wage-claim unit (misclassification and minimum-pay claims)
- 211 — local worker centres and emergency assistance (211.org)
- Legal aid or worker centre intake via lawhelp.org
What this cannot do: It cannot compel a payment, overturn a deactivation, or determine whether a specific practice is unlawful.

One human next step
Take the per-task summary to your state labor office's wage-claim unit (or the consumer complaint route if the app is not your employer of record), and keep the customer receipts with it.
