CHATBOT DEPENDENCY / HOUSEHOLD AGREEMENT

Make an AI Use Agreement That Protects Time, Privacy, and Human Backup

A boundary works better when it is specific enough to follow and revisable enough to stay humane. The goal is not to prove that someone’s AI use is “too much.” It is to make room for privacy, sleep, school or work, and people who can help when the tool is not the right support.

Start with the channel change

Choose the person or household the agreement is for and one ordinary purpose for the AI tool. Start narrow rather than writing a universal rule.

Why this matters

A useful agreement names what the tool is for, what does not belong in it, and what happens when the situation is high-stakes or emotionally urgent. It also gives every person a voice in changing the agreement.

The generator is intentionally private and non-scored. It does not infer dependency from a chat history and it does not ask for the contents of anyone’s conversations.

The protocol

  1. Choose the person or household the agreement is for and one ordinary purpose for the AI tool. Start narrow rather than writing a universal rule.
  2. Add one privacy boundary: no passwords, private identifying details, or another person’s story without permission.
  3. Add a human-backup rule for health, safety, legal, financial, or overwhelming situations. Name a person or service to contact.
  4. Set a review date. A changed tool, schedule, age, or need is a reason to revise the agreement, not evidence that someone failed.

A boundary you can actually use

A ready agreement has a purpose, a privacy line, a human-backup line, and a review date. It should sound like an invitation to pause and ask for help, not surveillance language.

Limit first: This is a planning worksheet, not a mental-health assessment or a substitute for a clinician, trusted adult, or crisis support. If someone may be in immediate danger, use local emergency or crisis resources rather than an AI tool.

One human next step

Ask the person affected whether the agreement feels fair and what support they want from a human. Do not monitor private AI conversations as a shortcut to a conversation.

Research log and safety checks

AI-assist path: not applicable. The protective function is a consent-based agreement generator; inferring a person’s relationship from private chat content would overreach. §6.10: not a frontier-pace topic.

§0.5 protection result: category is chatbot-dependency-check; crisis-adjacent: no; fear/urgency/scarcity toolkit used: no. The protective function is free and the paid feature is convenience only.
