Why autonomous wallet allowances create compounding exposure

Smart contract allowances grant automated agents permission to withdraw tokens up to an infinite limit until the allowance is explicitly revoked or capped on-chain.

If an agent's backend server, API key, or smart contract is exploited, attackers can drain all approved tokens from connected non-custodial wallets without asking for a new signature.

The protocol

  1. List all autonomous trading bots, DeFi agents, and portfolio tools with wallet connections.
  2. Use an official block explorer or trusted token approval scanner to inspect open allowances.
  3. Identify any unlimited spending allowances or approvals granted to deprecated tools.
  4. Submit on-chain revocation transactions for any idle or unverified agent contracts.
  5. Set strict finite allowances for active agents and use separate sub-wallets for automation.
