Voice cloning has crossed the point where a short audio sample — a voicemail greeting, a video you posted — can produce a convincing match in seconds. Trying to detect the clone by listening puts you in an arms race the scammer is winning by design.
A check that works is a channel check: hang up and call back on a number you already had, and ask something only the real person would know. That holds no matter how good the clone gets, because it never depends on judging the voice.
The protocol
- Note where the call came from. An unknown or masked number is not proof of fraud, but it is a reason to change channels before acting.
- Do not act on urgency or secrecy. A request to move fast, keep it secret, or pay in gift cards, wire, or crypto is a pattern to slow down for.
- Hang up and call back on the number you already have for that person — never a number the caller gives you.
- Ask one question only the real person would know. If there is no pre-agreed code word, use something that is not publicly searchable.
What the tool does
Walk a suspicious voice call through three channel checks and get a callback protocol with its basis shown. It runs in this browser; form contents are not sent or stored by this page.
Limit first: This is a verification habit, not a fraud investigation service. It can miss a pattern and it can flag an ordinary call. A clean reading never proves a voice is real.

If money already moved, contact your bank or payment service immediately, then report to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov and the FBI at ic3.gov.
Research log and safety checks
AI-assist path: not used for a verdict. This artifact is an inspectable channel-verification walkthrough; a remote model would add an opaque judgment where the reader needs to see the basis. §6.10: not a frontier-pace topic.
§0.5 protection result: category is scam-fraud-defense; crisis-adjacent: no; fear/urgency/scarcity toolkit used: no. The protective function is free and the paid feature is convenience only.
